"Talented man". Minister of Culture remembers "charismatic" Luís Jardim

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, remembered, this Friday, the musician Luís Jardim, describing him as a "talented, multifaceted and charismatic man".

"Musician and producer Luís Jardim left us today, unexpectedly. A talented, multifaceted and charismatic man has passed away," wrote the Minister of Culture on the social network X.

In the note, Margarida Balseiro Lopes sent "condolences to the family and friends" of Luís Jardim and recalled "the collaborations with the biggest stars of international music and several Portuguese artists".

Musician and music producer Luís Jardim died this Friday, July 4, on the day he celebrated his 75th birthday.

The news of his death was announced by Alberto João Jardim, former president of the Regional Government of Madeira and cousin of the musician. "My cousin, Luís Alberto Gonçalves Jardim, has passed away. A musician and businessman, he recorded great 'stars', including the Beatles, in his London studio", wrote the politician on the social network X.

"The memories remain, of his humor and his proactivity, his appearances on Portuguese television programs. See you soon, Luís", he added.

The current president of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, also lamented the death of his "dear friend" Luís Jardim.

"It is with deep sadness that I say goodbye to my dear friend Luís Jardim. Born in Madeira, Luís was much more than a brilliant musician and music producer, he was a generous, talented and inspiring person", wrote Miguel Albuquerque in a note published on the social network Facebook.

Albuquerque stressed that he had the "privilege of sharing moments" with the producer and that he saw up close the "impact he left on the world of music, both in Portugal and abroad".

Musician Luís Jardim died this Friday, on the day he turned 75. In addition to the president of the Regional Government of Madeira, Alberto João Jardim, his cousin, also reacted to the death.

Luís Alberto Figueira Gonçalves Jardim was born on July 4, 1950, on the island of Madeira. In the 1960s, he was part of Demónios Negros and, in the following decade, he formed the band Rouge, in England, which sold millions of records.

He participated in soundtracks for films such as 'Gladiator' and 'A Fish Called Wanda', and went on several world tours with several renowned artists.

The music producer has worked with internationally renowned artists such as David Bowie, Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, George Michael, Rod Stewart, Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Elton John, Julio Iglesias, Cindy Lauper, Michael Bolton, Gloria Estefan and Michael Jackson.

In Portugal, he produced albums for several artists, such as Rui Veloso and João Pedro Pais, and was a judge on several talent shows, such as 'Ídolos', 'Uma Canção Para Ti' and 'A Tua Cara Não Me É Estranha'.

In addition to music, Luís Jardim had a brief career as a goalkeeper, playing for Marítimo's youth team and Chelsea's youth teams, before definitively opting for music.
